About
Chase Hawley
I’m a composer from Northern California, currently living in Brooklyn, New York. I studied Contemporary Classical composition and Electronic Synthesis at Sarah Lawrence College. I marries both of these skill sets along with my background of songwriting to create emotionally charged and riveting, contemporary work. Currently in my late 20’s, I work primarily in live performance, scoring film and commercials, and dance/performance art with a focus in creative collaboration. I impart the human into the machine by utilizing acoustic and humanistic elements in combination with electronic synthesis, creating emotional and technically complex work. Through the mixture of contemporary classical composition, folk music, and modern electronic production techniques, I cultivate a style of music that is accessible and familiar, giving the listener the opportunity to delve further into the more complex aspects of the work. In practice, I utilize multiple instruments simultaneously, alongside pre-recorded samples and live vocals in order to blend all these styles of music together. The music’s intent is to create something as dense and complex as it is relatable and simple. Another core aspect of my work involves unearthing samples of music or pieces of found footage or photography, and augmenting and repurposing them in combination with one another. The culmination of this effort is a cohesive live performance of music and live digital projection, which blends these components together creating integrated works of art.
